This is a
giant canoe which is circumnavigating the UK starting from London and going
anti-clock wise. It should be passing along the
North Cornish Coastline during
June, and hopefully we will be able to join them for part of their journey. So
get out there and practice
you paddling and skills and you could be one of us!
Want to be
kept up to date and involved with the club then you need to come to our Tuesday
evening sessions if the tides are kind and
we are going for a local paddle we
meet at about 6.15pm, if it’s a class room session then its 7.00pm. The benefits
of coming to the Tuesday
night sessions are too many to list but here’s a
couple, you get to hear about short notice paddles that haven’t been put on the
web site and
can even get together with likeminded paddlers and organise your
own.
Lundy Paddles
19th - 21st September 2008
26th - 28th
September 2008
We have two Lundy Paddles Panned for this year, hopefully both
trips will run. We will have nominated people for each trip if however the first
one in cancelled then those people booked for that trip will take the second
weekend, and the people booked on the second one will not get to go in
September. We will endeavour to put on a further trip as soon as possible after
this so everyone who has booked gets to go.
Format for each trip will be paddle to Lundy on the Friday,
Saturday paddle around Lundy for those who want and return on Sunday.
Each group of paddlers will be expected to meet prior to the trip
and the logistics will be agreed by the group at this meeting.
Now for the serious bit:
·
Cost
an up front payment of £32.50 will need to be paid as we have had to pay the
camp site fees.
·
There
will be a landing fee of £3:50 payable when we arrive at Lundy (we may have to
pay this again if we go for a Saturday paddle).
·
£?
Spending money.
Lundy Paddle Training Requirements:
Below is the minimum you must attend to be able to join us on the
Lundy Trip we would encourage everyone to get out and paddle whenever they can.
·
2 x
Rescue training sessions
·
1 x
Paddle of 16nm completed in 5 hours
·
1 x
Overnight trip consisting of 12nm paddle, camp, 12nm paddle; second day will
involve a rescue section towards end of trip.
The rational behind the above paddles is to make sure everyone is
capable of paddling the distance and can also assist when required in any
incidents that occur.
These session will be programmed into the club calendar.
This may all sound a bit serious but if we have a well planned
and trained for trip then it should be a fantastic few days paddling,
everyone
will come away with a real feeling of satisfaction and achievement, even if you
don’t intend to join us for the Lundy paddle
still come along on the training,
it’ll be fun and that’s compulsory!
